FAPSA Teacher Educator

The FAPSA Teacher Educator Certificate is a formal qualification to run teacher training courses. This award is based on philosophical academic background, teaching experience, performance at the workshop and self-assessment.

PREREQUISITES: Participants must have successfully completed:

  • Introductory certificate in Philosophy in Schools
  • Advanced practice certificate in Philosophy in Schools
  • Either a teaching qualification and substantial practice in teaching philosophy in schools (at least one year) or a minimum of an Honours degree in Philosophy

Certificates are awarded in the following categories:

1. Teacher Educator Certificate (Philosophy): This certificate qualifies the holder to run teacher-training courses in conjunction with a Teacher Educator (Classroom Practice). It is awarded to people with formal qualifications in Philosophy, but little experience of teaching it in schools, who satisfactorily complete the Teacher Educator course.

2. Teacher Educator Certificate (Classroom Practice): This certificate qualifies the holder to run teacher-training courses in conjunction with a Teacher Educator (Philosophy). It is awarded to people with substantial experience in teaching Philosophy in schools who satisfactorily complete the Teacher Educator course, but who do not possess the requisite academic qualifications in Philosophy.

3. Teacher Educator Certificate (Full Certificate): This certificate is awarded to people with suitable academic qualifications in Philosophy and substantial experience teaching philosophy in schools, who satisfactorily completed the Teacher Educator course. It qualifies the holder to run teacher-training courses.

4. Certificate of Attendance: This certificate is awarded to a person who completes a Teacher Educator course but is not yet ready to engage in teacher-education in Philosophy.
