Sydney Philosothon

The Sydney Philosothon has been running since 2009. We acknowledge and thank the previous schools who have hosted this event (Ascham, Cranbrook, St Andrew’s Cathedral School and North Sydney Girls).

2025 Philosothon will be held 31 July from 3:45-8:00pm at Newington College, hosted by the Centre for Critical Thinking and Ethics.

Schools may enter one or two teams; each team must consist of two Junior students (Years 7-9) and two Senior students (Years 10-12). Each participating team must be accompanied by a teacher who has been through the two-day Introduction to Philosophical Community of Inquiry training, which is required in order to facilitate/assess COIs:  https://events.humanitix.com/introduction-to-philosophical-community-of-inquiry-workshop

2024 Sydney Philosothon:

Here is the stimulus material for the 2024 event; it was included in the most recent newsletter for members of the Association.

The event is open to all and free of charge for schools who are members of PinS NSW (contact the Ass’n for access to these tickets). In 2024, schools may enter one or two teams, each consisting of four students: aged 14, 15, 16 and open. In order to provide a robust judging panel (to ensure a successful and fulfilling experience for all students), each participating school must provide a PinS NSW-certified facilitator/judge.

Teams must be registered by latest 5 July. For more information, please see the Humanitix booking page: Sydney Philosothon 2024 | Humanitix. For any queries, please contact the 2024 Philosothon Assistant at ksvircev@newington.nsw.edu.au
